What are you doing?
The audacious plan is to cycle from Scotland to New Zealand. Depending on the route, we think it should be around 20,000 - 25,000 kilometres of cycling travelling through around 35 countries. You can find our route here.
Isn’t there a bit of water in the way?
Good spot! We’ll have to take the boat across the English Channel and the Caspian Sea and fly between Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, but we’ll aim to cycle on land when we can. That said, there are no hard and fast rules, we might have to fly over a country if we can’t get a visa (for example China isn’t look good for visas) or jump on a train if we’re done with a country.
Are you doing it for charity?
We’re both very charitable (obvs), but we're not raising money . We want to keep the trip flexible and follow our front wheel rather than have people relying on us to hit certain milestones.
Will you be cycling every single day?
Once our bodies have adjusted, we’ll aim to cycle six days out of seven. No strict rules, but we’ll aim to cycle for six or seven hours a day, so there will be plenty of time off the bikes to explore, drink coffee, wine and generally try to stay out of trouble.
How long will it take?
It’s hard to tell, but we’ve pencilled in nine months for the time being.
Where are you going to sleep?
We’ve got a tent, so we’d like to camp as much as possible and take advantage of the great outdoors. In some countries and areas, we’ll be looking for hostels or local accommodation.
Are you putting the trip on Strava or GPX tracking the route?
Nope. We’ve got a speedometer to track the distance we travel, but we’ll be trying to get away from our phones if we can. For regular updates of where we are you can follow our Instagram.
Speaking of phones, how will you charge them?
We’ve got a powerpack which we will charge in cafes and restaurants when we can. When we get to sunnier climates, we’ll pick up a solar pack for charging phones, lights and kindles from the sun.
Good luck guys. Hugely jealous. Enjoy the adventure.
